Award confirms wedding venues in Yorkshire could be amongst best
Planning your wedding? Wedding venues in Yorkshire might be where you should be looking. After all this ‘God’s Own Country’ labeled county in the United Kingdom has just won the title for Europe’s Leading Destination for the year 2013.
The prize was awarded at the World Travel Awards held in Antalya, Turkey. It’s believed to be the Oscars of the Travel Industry. Yorkshire beat Berlin, London and Madrid to win this title. Not bad company at all.
Yorkshire is the first location other than a major city or country to have won the Leading Destination title in the history of the 17 years this award has been presented. Tourism agency ‘Welcome to Yorkshire’ said the award was a ‘major coup’ for them. Quite so.
Purpose of the award
The award is intended to highlight and reward locations and travel brands who the judges consider to have made the most significant contribution to the tourism industry during the previous twelve months.
For Yorkshire, tourism is worth an invaluable £7bn per year which works out at 216 million visits made to the country annually. Add this to the right to host the start of the Tour de France in July in 2014 with the Grand Depart being held in Leeds. Yorkshire is on a roll.
In good company
Yorkshire is certainly in good company. Previous winners of the award include Instanbul, Paris, London and Barcelona. The publicity this award will bring with it will certainly help Yorkshire and its Tourism Department achieve even brighter tourism revenue results.
Not only tourism is something people might consider for Yorkshire. But possibly for brides in the United Kingdom, a destination wedding to Yorkshire could be an option with a great selection amongst wedding venues on offer.
